8 days tour visiting Beijing, Xian and Shanghai

Day 1
London - Beijing 1 night

Depart London Heathrow at around 1640 on the non-stop British Airways flight to Beijing.

Day 2
Beijing 3 nights

Arrive Beijing around 1025 and visit Tiananmen Square en-route to the 4-star Shangri-La Traders Hotel. After time to relax, visit the quaint hutong quarter by Lake Houhai. Enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)

Day 3

Visit the magnificent Forbidden City. Explore the hutong area of Nanluguoxing and take lunch. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, the imperial lakes and resorts created for Empress Cixi. (BL)

Day 4

Drive north to the less-crowded and more scenic part of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Enjoy a traditional Peking Duck dinner. (BLD)

Day 5
Beijing - Xian 2 nights

Morning visit to the Ming-era Temple of Heaven where the Emperors performed annual sacrificial rituals for good harvests. Enjoy a journey by bullet train to Xian and transfer to the 4-star Grand New World Hotel. (BL)

Day 6

Visit the world-renowned Terracotta Army – 7000 individually crafted life-sized figures, complete with chariots and horses. Afternoon visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and continue to the City Walls. Evening optional dinner and Tang- era music and dance performance. (BL)

Day 7
Xian - Shanghai 3 nights

Visit the Hanyanling Museum where the Han ‘Lady Warriors’ are displayed, before flying to Shanghai and the 4-star Equatorial Hotel. After dinner there will be an opportunity to take an optional cruise on the Huangpu River to admire the beautifully illuminated Bund and Pudong District. (BD)

Day 8

Visit the Yuyuan Garden and the old Chinese quarter with its colourful bazaar. Continue to the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Observation decks to admire birds eye views of Shanghai. (BLD)

Day 9

Enjoy a day at leisure in this fabulous city, or join optional tours locally. (B)

Day 10
Shanghai - London

Transfer to the airport for your homeward flight with British Airways arriving later the same day. (B)

Day 10
Suzhou and Hanghzhou post-tour extension5 nights

Transfer to the station in Shanghai to take the train to Suzhou. Transfer upon arrival to the Scholars Hotel for 2 nights. Visit the ancient city gate at Panmen and the Garden of the Master of the Nets. (B)

Day 11

Morning cruise on the Grand Canal to Marco Polo Bridge, explore the bustling old town and continue to a silk mill to see the ancient technique involved in producing the region’s silks. Afternoon at leisure. (BL)

Day 12

Take the train to Hangzhou. Upon arrival transfer to the Best Western Meiyuan Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 13

Take a boat trip on West Lake surrounded by idyllic gardens. Visit the delightful garden of a former Qing nobleman. Explore the lively cultural street. (BL)

Day 14

Return to Shanghai by train and to the Equatorial Hotel (B)

Shanghai - London

Early transfer to the airport for your return flight to London arriving later the same day. (B)

There is also a beauty salon, massage, gym, indoor pool, sauna, business centre, restaurant and coffee shop. A good buffet breakfast is offered and both Chinese and western food is served in the hotel restaurants and coffee shop.
